To celebrate the first year of our fabric advent calendars, we wanted to highlight a few patterns that can put all those fat quarters to good use! We'll start with some of our patterns in stock and throw in some staff favorite freebies at the end.
In-stock patterns
Modernly Morgan's Stardrops pattern uses a mix of fat quarters and background fabric and looks amazing in solids or patterns.
The Agnes pattern by Jennifer Jones is a gorgeous mix and match fat quarter friendly pattern in multiple sizes.
Courtyard, by Primrose Cottage, uses 13-16 fat quarters. It can look really lovely with feature fabric in the middle of each block and smaller scale fabrics on the outside.
Chickens by Cluck Cluck Sew uses up to 13 fat quarters, and is completely adorable!
Finally, Cluck Cluck sew also has Picnic for the more geometric souls out there, a lovely fat quarter friendly pattern.
Free patterns
Finding patterns that use fat quarters and ONLY fat quarters can be a little challenging. We've highlighted some free staff favorites in this section.
First is my personal favorite, the Love Letters pattern by Moonkin Stitchery: beginner friendly and comes in a range of sizes, using any from 8 (baby) to 50 (king) fat quarters. She even has a great tutorial video - check it out!
Moonkin also has the Checkered Brick pattern: even easier, has a range of sizes (using from 4 to 42 fat quarters) and also comes with a handy tutorial!
Fat Quarter Shop's free Cobblestone Shortcut Quilt pattern calls for 25 fat quarters (I know you have an extra FQ lying around somewhere) and has nice big pieces to show off large scale prints. And, you guessed it, comes with a tutorial as well!
Another quick and easy fat quarter pattern that works well with large prints is Material Girl's Fat Quarter Mixer and its accompanying tutorial. This one is so great for a quick gift: the top is doable in an afternoon for many quilters.
Finally for a bit of a change, the Fat Quarter Fancy quilt by Sew Can She combines 16 fat quarters with 4 yards of background fabric to make a cute starburst. This is one of those great makes that's quick and easy, but looks modern and impressive!
Here we are heading into 2025 and we've got about 10,000 projects in the Work In Progress pile. I sense a New Years Resolution creeping up! Hope you have a wonderful year to come and see you in the new year!
